The Delhi Police and the AIIMS hospital in Delhi both denied that gangster Chhota Rajan had died today. On April 26, 61-year-old Chhota Rajan was admitted to the hospital after testing positive for Covid.
Since his arrest in 2015 following his deportation from Bali, Indonesia, he has been held in Delhi’s high-security Tihar jail. In 2018, Chhota Rajan was convicted and sentenced to a life term in the 2011 murder of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.
Rajan, born Rajendra Nikalje, is facing 70 criminal charges in Mumbai, including extortion and murder. Many of the cases were handed over to the CBI, which set up a special court to hear them.
COVID-19 prevented him from being brought before the sessions court via video last month.
