In a shocking incident reported from Kerala, a 27-year-old woman was allegedly locked up in a flat in Kochi, where she was tortured and sexually assaulted for months by her live-in partner.
The FIR based on the fashion designer’s complaint says she had been locked up in a flat at Marine Drive, raped repeatedly and subjected to torture including physical assault by her live-in partner from February 20 to March 8 this year.
The accused was identified as Martin Joseph. Joseph hails from Puttekkara in Thrissur and works as a businessman.
The woman alleged that the accused asked her to invest Rs 5 lakh in the stock market, where he did his business and promised her a monthly return of Rs 40,000.
The accused when failed to return the amount, threatened to murder her. He also took naked photographs of the woman and threatened to send them to her parents.
On May 18, the Additional Sessions Court, Ernakulam dismissed Joseph’s anticipatory bail plea. On May 27, the accused filed for a plea before the Kerala High Court and the hearing of the same was adjourned to June 8. On June 8, the court sought the prosecutor’s views and adjourned the hearing to June 11.
However, Martin claimed he is only 26 and that the woman, who hid her marital status from him initially, entered into a live-in relationship with him. When their relationship became strained, she filed a complaint alleging rape.
He said he was innocent and was falsely implicated.
