Former child actor of the fame ‘Saved by the Bell’ Dustin Diamond lost his long battle to lung cancer at 44. Source close to the late actor revealed that he was fighting Carcinoma for the past three weeks. Diamond breathed his last this Monday morning, informed his manager.
The actor’s condition deteriorated in the past one week and was taken off the breathing support he was in so that he could be provided hospice care. As per reports, the actor’s girlfriend Tash Jules and another friend were by his side till the end.
For the unversed, Diamond was battling stage 4 lung cancer or Carcinoma as has been revealed by his spokesperson Roger Paul. The late actor rose to fame back in the 1990s when he played the role of Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers in Saved by the Bell. He played a sidekick and best friend to the popular show’s main character Zack Morris. Not only did Diamond appear in the original show but also its spin-offs which were also popular among the audience.
Celebrities have expressed their condolence to the late actor’s near and dear ones on social media. His former co-star Mario Lopez wrote: “Dustin, you will be missed, my man. The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted.” The actor also shared a throwback picture with the late actor along with the tweet.
Another co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar also paid his tribute to Diamond and referred to him as a true comic genius.
