The directors of the Amazon Prime Video web series The Family Man Season 2 have responded to demands for the series to be banned, claiming that allegations were made based on a few shots in the teaser. They asked people to wait for the show and said they had gone to great lengths to present “a sensitive, balanced, and riveting tale.” The cast of the show has made the same comment.

The Tamil Nadu government asked the Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Monday to either halt or prohibit the release of The Family Man Season 2 because it allegedly portrays Eelam Tamils in a negative light. Tamil Nadu IT Minister T Mano Thangaraj wrote to I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar, claiming that the trailer depicted Tamils in a “highly objectionable way” and that there was an attempt to dehumanise them.

“We have put years of hard work into this project, and we have taken great pains to bring to our viewers a sensitive, healthy, and riveting tale – just like we did in Season 1 of the show,” they said, urging everyone to watch the show first. We ask that everyone wait until the show is released before watching it. We’re confident you’ll like it once you’ve seen it.”

In his message, the TN minister referred to actress Samantha Akkineni’s appearance in the trailer for The Family Man 2. “In the serial, portraying Tamil actress Samantha as a terrorist is a direct assault on the dignity of Tamils around the world, and no one can tolerate this kind of inspired and mischievous campaign,” he said.
