With the success of his current track, “Echo,” which was released in May and has over 13 million views on YouTube, singer Armaan Malik has once again found the bullseye. Armaan recently got down for an exclusive interview with IndianExpress.com to discuss his desire of exploring worldwide music, his collaboration with KPop singer Eric Nam, and much more.
On his first international project, he says “‘Echo’ is my first international collaboration with outstanding artists such as Eric Nam, a Korean singer/songwriter, and KSHMR, a renowned DJ/Music Producer. When I met KSHMR in Los Angeles just before the global pandemic and the publication of my debut English single, ‘Echo’ was born. He played some unreleased songs, including ‘Echo,’ and it simply stuck with me, so I recorded a demo verse at his studio. Around the middle of 2020, Eric and I had a brief exchange on Twitter that launched an internet friendship, and our teams collaborated on a project.”
When it comes to success and failure, he adds that there is always that lingering fear of the unknown whenever you try anything new or venture into unexplored terrain. “Re-introducing myself and starting my musical adventure all over again in this new enormous realm of global pop was rather intimidating. Many people in India believed I was taking the biggest danger of my life ” he went on to say.
Everyone expects you to act a certain way and make the music you’ve always been known for, but as an artist, you should always be aware that some aspects of your work may be too different from your regular work, putting you at risk of rejection by your followers.
