Mumbai police have summoned Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut on Thursday in connection with the defamation complaint filed against her by veteran lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar. The Queen actor has been asked to appear before Juhu police on January 22.
Akhtar had filed a criminal complaint against the actor for unnecessarily dragging his name and making derogatory remarks about him on national television.
Akhtar’s lawyer Niranjan Mundargi said Ranaut defamed the lyricist in an interview in July with Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, while speaking about the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In addition to this, the complaint also stated that the Ranaut had wrongly claimed that Akhtar threatened her to not speak about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan.
The court has ordered the Mumbai police to file a report against the actor and launch an immediate probe into the defamation complaint filed by the lyricist.
Ranaut has been hitting the headlines ever since the shocking death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She has been lashing at the Bollywood biggies for nepotism prevalent in the industry.
