Rakul Preet Singh has signed her first solo female-centric film, and it’s a quirky one at that. Rakul has chosen to follow Ayushmann Khurrana’s path to stardom after playing the romantic lead in Doctor G. Rakul has already signed a contract for a project with Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and will play the role of an executive, according to Bollywood Hungama.
Rakul plays the role of a condom tester in the film, which is a social comedy. While there isn’t much information available at this time, we do know that the project will be directed by Marathi filmmaker Tejas Vijay Deoskar, who also directed Bucket List. Although the film has yet to be given a title, we’ve heard that the title has been secured!
A source said “They plan to call it Chhatriwaali. Yes, the film will be titled so, since Condom is called chhatri in the typical local language. Since Rakul plays the role of a condom tester, this film has been given the title. While Sardar and Grandson happen to be Rakul’s debut digital project, it was planned as a theatrical release initially. But Chhatriwaali is being ideated as a direct to OTT release, much like RSVP’s Dhamaka.”
Chhatriwaali is a quirky drama that seeks to de-stigmatize condom use. Indians are also hesitant to purchase condoms or even use the word condom. In the same vein as Dream Girl, the film will be a bold yet humorous take on the subject. Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday were offered the roles before Rakul was cast, but both declined. After the narration, Sara refused to be a part of the film. Ananya her team felt that the concept and the role were too bold for her.
