Amid the ongoing controversy over Amazon Prime’s web series ‘Tandav’, another web series ‘Mirzapur’ has now landed into soup for allegedly ‘maligning the image’ of Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh.
The Supreme Court issued a notice to the makers and Amazon Prime Video following a petition filed by a resident of Mirzapur. The court has sought answers from OTT platform and the web series makers regarding this.
The petitioner, S K Kumar, in his petition said the series allegedly shows the district in poor light. The series which is currently in its second season, portrays Mirzapur as a ‘den of terror and illegal activities’.
Mirzapur is an action crime thriller that revolves around drugs, guns, murders and lawlessness. It depicts the putrescence, governance and rule of mafia dons, and the rivalry and crime prevailing in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. The series is Amazon Prime Video’s third fiction Indian Original after Inside Edge and Breathe.
