Panic gripped the people of Baidyabati after a creditor, identified as Gangaram Sarkar, brought his COVID-19 positive wife to the locality to intimate a man into paying his dues.
Sarkar has been in the brick business for years and claimed that he lent money to Sheshnath Singh, a local brick kiln owner. Singh allegedly borrowed Rs 5 lakh from him. However, after not getting the amount back in cash or kind, Sarkar took matters into his own hands.
He sent his wife’s COVID-19 positive report to Singh and tried to intimidate him into paying his dues. But, upon refusal, he visited Singh’s house, along with his wife, ensuing panic among the onlookers. Moreover, after waiting for half an hour outside his residence, Sarkar managed to collect an amount of Rs 10 thousand.
However, Singh claimed that he was unable to clear his dues because his brick kiln in the Nimai Tirtha Ghat region shut down. Furthermore, he also raised allegations regarding Sarkar’s credibility after the incident unfolded.
