Often we come across people taking streets for granted, with people tossing their garbage outside their car window. But no more! Now think twice before to your litter the space, especially when your touring in Karnataka.
Two youths were made to travel 80km back to Madikeri in Coorg to clean up the mess they had littered on the highway.
Driving through the highway, two tourists who were in Madikeri in Karnataka had apparently threw empty pizza boxes from their car, prompting officials to take action against litterers.
Thanks to Madetira Thimmaiah, the General Secretary of Kodagu Tourism Association who had noticed and alerted the police officials. Unfortunately, the pizza boxes contained the bill that also mentioned the number of one of the member.
This helped the officials to tract down the litterers.
It was a few days prior the incident that Madetira Thimmaiah along with panchayat other members of the Kadagadalu gram panchayat had conducted a clean-up drive in the area to restore its natural beauty.
He said, “I was keeping a close watch in the area to curb the garbage menace on our hill station. When I was returning to my home on Friday, at around 2.15 pm, I noticed some pizza packets tossed on the side of the road. I felt like all our efforts were in vain. So, I decided to open up the packet and luckily found a bill which had the person’s phone number. I called up the person and requested him to return to the spot and pick up the waste.”
The tourists however immediately apologised for the trash but refused to obey Thimmaiah as they had crossed Coorg. However, the number was later shared with the police officials and also shared on social media.
After receiving numerous calls by the people, the duo returned to the spot and picked up the boxes.
