The passion for education, and commitment and sincerity at work has helped Kasula Ravi Kumar, 35, a college dropout, triumph over hardships in his mission to bring pride and success to those deprived of education.
“I suffered a lot because I lacked communication skills, faced humiliation as I couldn’t frame a single sentence in English,” says Ravi Kumar. The obstacle he faced in life has prompted him to extend a helping hand.
Drifting away from conventional library halls, Ravi Kumar has turned his house into a library, to give access to all the resources he couldn’t have as a kid. “Unlike other libraries where silence is a must, here children can play, discuss and learn. Ours is a laboratory that will create bright minds,” Kasula Ravi Kumar says.
Doing all menial jobs was all he did for a little earning he could provide his family. The son of a auto-rickshaw, Ravi Kumar managed to bag the post of a post graduate teacher (PGT) in Government Model School in 2013.
He is currently teaching at teacher in a state run Model School in Mulugu of Telangana.
Marred by the ensuing Covid-19-induced lockdown, Ravi Kumar came up with the idea of setting up the library for rural children in his locality, providing education beyond the regular curriculum.
Built at the cost of around ₹12 lakh, the Lead Children Library houses about 6,000 books. Along with 30 children in the locality around 25 children from a local orphanage come and join the library every day or in shifts.
Drove by the motto- ‘Education is the only weapon to defeat all the problems in the life’, Kasula says that he will continue to run the library at any cost.
Ravi Kumar is now mulling over setting up mobile library and 20 similar children libraries to serve rural and Adivasi children in Mulugu district. The Lead Children Library will also offer educational and career related material to youth and adults.
The move has trained around 2,500 rural youths in basic english communication skills and career guidance.
Ravi Kumar who has inspired hundreds of youths aims “to win the battle against poverty and other social evils, education is the only weapon.”
