The pandemic has made people innovative. The people have adapted to the change. The wedding industry has found its own way of functioning and the “big fat weddings” are now conducted online, and in case it’s not done virtually, minimum people are invited to the wedding including close family members and friends.
A family in Madurai found a way in which they could collect presents from their near and dear ones. They printed a QR code on their wedding card, from which one could scan and transfer money through PhonePe or Google pay to couple Siva Sankari and Saravanan. In Indian tradition, it is very common that people offer money to the bride and bridegroom. The main purpose was to increase cashless transaction, through which risk of infection will also reduce.
“About 30 persons had used the QR code facility and gave cash as their wedding present,” said T J Jeyanthi, Siva Sankari’s mother. Jeyanthi, who runs a beauty parlour in Madurai, added: “This is the first time such a thing has been attempted in our family.”
The pictures of the invitation were also making rounds on social media, and people have been appreciating the measures the couple took. Jeyanthi said: “I have been getting many calls on this. Similarly, my brother and others in the family have been getting lots of calls since Monday morning.”
