Due to the pandemic, Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary will be celebrated in a low-key manner this year. In the afternoon, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will attend a function on Cathedral Road. At Rabindra Tirtha, the Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) will commemorate Tagore’s birth anniversary digitally. The show, live-streamed on the Facebook page of Rabindra Tirtha. will begin at 7:00 a.m. and will last for one hour.
Tagore’s birth anniversary will be commemorated virtually for the second year in a row. The poet’s birthday is celebrated with great zeal in Bengal. Prior to the pandemic, a programme commemorating Rabindra Sadan’s birth anniversary was held on the Rabindra Sadan campus. The programme used to feature Rabindra Sangeet performers. Later, the location was changed to Cathedral Road.
Tagore’s birthday will also be commemorated in a virtual way on the Rabindra Bharati campus in Jorasanko, where he was born in 1861. Previously, Jorasanko hosted a musical show. In light of the pandemic, the clubs and other organisations have halted the programme.
