An Indian Army colonel has been booked for allegedly raping a woman of Russian origin after sedating her husband in Kanpur. The incident took place at an officer’s mess in the Cantonment area of Kanpur late on Saturday night.
The victim’s husband, a civilian, has lodged an FIR against the officer at the Cantonment police station. According to the complainant, his spouse is of Russian descent and has been residing in India for 10 years.
Raj Kumar Agarwal, superintendent of police (SP), Kanpur East, said police have launched a manhunt for the accused posted at the Central Ordnance Depot (COD) in Kanpur. He is believed to be on the run following the incident.
Agarwal added: “His buddy has said within the FIR that the colonel had invited his spouse and him to a celebration on the event of his promotion to the rank of colonel from that of lieutenant colonel on Saturday.”
After sedating his friend, the accused allegedly raped the woman. He even assaulted her when she put up a resistance.
According to reports, the victim has undergone medical examination and a report is expected soon. The victim’s kin alleged the police delayed conducting the test in a bid to save the accused. However, the cops have denied the allegation.
Based on the complaint, the police have booked the accused under relevant Indian Penal Code sections, including 376 (rape). They have also formed several teams to apprehend him.
