Police have started investigating a city businessman’s claim that his 13-year-old son stole Rs 12 lakh from their Nolambur home’s safe over the course of a year to play online games with three of his mates. The complainant’s son has been interviewed by police, as have his three mates, all of whom are 13 years old.
In his complaint, the businessman said his son, a Class VIII student who studied at a private school in the city played the game Free Fire, an online game, at an electronic showroom in the locality.
As time passed, the boy needed more money. He started stealing more money from the safe and asked the owner of the electric showroom to recharge their account to play the online game, police informed. After finding out that a large sum of money has gone missing, the businessman questioned his son.
After the son admitted to stealing money from the safe, the businessman approached the JJ Nagar police station where the police questioned the other teenagers also. The teenagers said that they were not given more than Rs 500 by the businessman’s son every time.
Police is inquiring further to check if anyone else is involved in this case.
