Central Information Commission has said a wife has the right to know her husband’s income.
It added she also had the right to seek the information through RTI.
The observation came in response to an appeal filed by Jodhpur resident Rahmat Bano.
She had made an RTI application in 2018 seeking information of her husband’s IT returns for 2017-2018.
However, the Central Public Information Officer declined the request.
After her appeal was turned down, she moved the CIC.
The commission rejected the argument that such information pertained to third party.
It directed the IT department to provide her the details in 15 days from date of order.
