India recorded 2,76,110 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data showed on May 20 morning. The total tally of the viral infection now stands at 25,772,440. While the daily deaths were recorded below 4,000, taking the overall toll to 2,87,122
The active cases have further reduced to 31,29,878, comprising 12.14 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 86.74 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.
According to the latest data, the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,23,55,440, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.11 per cent.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on May 19 said that India will have procured 267 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses by the end of this year, and will be in a position to inoculate at least all of its adult population.
India’s daily count of Covid cases has started seeing a relative fall as several states have imposed curbs like lockdown, mini-lockdown, corona curfew etc.
