India is likely to get its first Covid vaccine early next year priced at Rs 500-600 for two doses.
This is possible as India is planning to give Serum Institute of India emergency approval for its vaccine.
Frontline workers like doctors, nurses and municipal staff will get the shots first.
Covishield is being manufactured by SII under an agreement with Oxford-AstraZeneca.
The Centre is finalising a contract with manufacturers to procure the doses.
Indigenously developed Covaxin is also likely to get emergency approval.
The Bharat Biotech vaccine is in the process of publishing data for phase I and II trials.
It has started phase 3 trials across 25 centres in the country.
So, two vaccines could be available by February.
Around 50-60 crore doses are needed to inoculate 25-30 crore priority population.
