Following the raging second wave of COVID-19 in India, Yash Raj Films CEO Aditya Chopra has launched the ‘Saathi’ initiative to financially help daily wage staff in the Hindi film industry who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Taran Adarsh, an Indian film critic and trade analyst, announced the news on Twitter on Friday.
“#AdityaChopra launches Yash Chopra Saathi Initiative to support thousands of daily wage earners of the film industry who are in crisis due to loss of livelihood… Will transfer INR 5000 to women and senior citizens… Also give ration kits to workers [family of 4] for an entire month,” Adarsh’s tweet read.
The Yash Chopra foundation also given their official website and WhatsApp details in the official letter, so that those who are eligible can apply for relief aid from the company.
Earlier, Yash Raj Films came forward and vowed to vaccinate the entire Hindi film industry’s regular workforce. YRF wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, urging him to allow the company to buy 30,000 COVID-19 vaccines and cover all costs associated with the immunisation programme for these jobs.
