Cyclonic storm Tauktae, which lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on May 17 morning, currently lays 90 km southeast of Diu and is most likely to hit the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva in Bhavnagar district tonight between 8 pm – 11 pm, the weather department has said.
At least six person have died in Maharashtra’s Konkan region.
In its latest update, the IMD said that Tauktae with winds gusting up to 185 km per hour is barreling towards the Gujarat coast. It is very likely to move north-north-westwards and reach Gujarat coast in the evening hours of Monday and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva (Bhavnagar district) during the night (8–11 pm) as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with a maximum sustained wind speed 155-165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph.
“The defence minister directed the three services to provide all possible assistance to the civil administration to deal with the emerging situation,” the defence ministry said.
Meanwhile, PM Modi in a telephonic conversation with CM Vijay Rupani discussed the preparations of the state to face Cyclone Tauktae. PM also expressed his readiness for all help from the Central Govt to the state.
