A wild elephant has been rescued 16 hours after it fell into a well in Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri.
A team of wildlife veterinarians led by Dr Prakash were lowered into the well to tranquilise the animal.
It was then tied to a heavy-duty crane on the ground using belts and lifted to the surface.
A huge crowd gathered on the spot to witness the rescue operation.
Reportedly, it fell into the 50ft open farm well after being chased by a group of dogs.
Well owner Venkatachalam alerted officials on hearing its sounds.
Forest department officials said the animal will be released into Hosur forest area.
