For the past two days, social media was abuzz with rumours over a claim that Anjali Birla, the Lok Sabha Speaker’s daughter, cleared Civil Services Exam, conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), in her first attempt without writing the exam or attending the interview and she got the privilege of being the Speaker’s daughter.
The claim along with the image reads: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s daughter cleared IAS in first attempt. She didn’t undertake any exam or interview. Just one question asked what does your father do? Trends are showing for the 90 seats that were kept for backward class. This is misuse of power.
However, a fact check reveals that Anjali Birla was among the 89 candidates selected by UPSC from its reserve list of 2019 civil services exam. She had attended both preliminary and mains examinations as well as the interview. She studied political science (honours) at Ramjas College in New Delhi.
