The ongoing farmers’ protest in India have become the talk of the world now and for good reason. The agitated farmers have been out in the cold dead winter for several weeks now with no intention of backing down until and unless their demands are met by the Central government.
To block the farmers from entering the capital anymore, Delhi Police turned the three protest sites at the borders – Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur – into fortresses. They blocked the borders with multi-layer barricades and heavy security deployment.
The police force has gone as far as fixing nails into the ground to prevent the farmers’ tractors from being able to cross the border.
However, seems like the joke is on them because of a video that was posted on Twitter by journalist Kamal Singh Brar. The video’s frame shows that it is originally a TikTok video by user @inderjitsingpbhin.
In the video, a few farmers are checking out the nails at the border and making fun of their bad quality. One of them can be heard saying, “Ehna ne eh kill laye ne ji, jehde mashoor hon daye ne,” which translates to, “They’ve put down these nails which are getting very popular.”
Then another farmer says, “Eh tan pairan nal mod chhadne ne,” which means that “These nails will bend with just your feet.” The farmers say all of this while stepping on the nails and actually breaking them.
Farmers have been protesting against three of the Centre’s laws: Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
