An imported dose of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus will cost ₹ 995.40 in India, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, which is manufacturing the vaccine in India, said on May 14. The dose was administered in Hyderabad. The company said that the price may reduce when local supply begins.
Dr Reddy’s said it was working with six manufacturers in India to fulfill regulatory requirements to ensure smooth and timely supply of the vaccine.
Sputnik V, which has an efficiency of 91.6 per cent, is the third vaccine to be approved for use in India.
According to the statement of the company, the first dose was administered as part of a limited pilot. “Further consignments of imported doses are expected over the upcoming months. Subsequently, supply of Sputnik V vaccine will commence from Indian manufacturing partners,” it said.
The vaccine is likely to be available in the Indian market from next week, the Centre had said on May 13.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur tweeted on May 9 that 1.5 lakh doses of Sputnik V “have already reached India and RDIF has also tied up with local Indian companies for bulk production”.
Dr Paul added that further supply will follow and the production of the vaccine will begin in July. “It is estimated that 15.6 crore doses will be manufactured in that period,” he said.
