Delhi Police has arrested five terrorists belonging to different terrorist organisations after a shootout in Delhi. The exchange of fire took place at east Delhi’s Shakarpur area around 7am.
While two of those arrested are from Punjab, three are from Kashmir, Pramod Kushwaha, the deputy commissioner of police of the special cell, said.
Those from Punjab are associates of dreaded gangster Sukhmeet Singh, alias Sukh Bhikhariwal, and were allegedly involved in the killing of Shaurya Chakra awardee “Comrade” Balwinder Singh, a former CPI(M) member who had taken on militants at the height of insurgency in Punjab in the 1990s.
“The operation happened around 7am in the Shakarpur area. The five were caught after an exchange of bullets with our special cell officials. We have recovered weapons and other incriminating materials from them,” Kushwaha said.
He added an investigation is on to ascertain the identities of the arrested men and the terror groups they are associated with.
Reports claim the group was backed by Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for Narcoterrorism.
The development comes days after a team of Delhi Police nabbed two Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists from Khan Market area of the national capital. Two semi-automatic pistols along with 10 live cartridges were recovered from them.
