Days after India kick-started world’s biggest vaccination drive, the country has scaled another global peak in its fight against Covid-19, as it becomes one of the topmost country in the world in terms of vaccination.
Inoculating over 57 lakh beneficiaries, India becomes the third country to have administered vaccine doses. Only the US and the UK remain ahead of India. So far, the country has inoculated 53,04,546 healthcare workers and 4,70,776 frontline workers.
According to the Union health ministry, at least 12 states have so far immunised over 2 lakh beneficiaries, with Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for 6,73,542 of all vaccinated.
In the last 24 hours, 3,58,473 were vaccinated in across 8,875 sessions.
Lauding the overall vaccination drive, the ministry said, “There has been a sustained increase in the number of beneficiaries being vaccinated every day.”
A total of 12,059 daily new Covid cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours, with 78 fatalities, taking the country’s total active cases to 1.48 lakh. The recovery rate has surged to 1.05 crore.
The ministry has informed that 81.07% recoveries are concentrated in six states and Union Territories.
Kerala reports the highest daily new cases at 5,942. It is followed by Maharashtra with 2,768, while Karnataka reported 531 new cases.
