The year has started on a cheerful note for Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli as they embraced parenthood. The celebrity couple on Monday took to social media to announce the birth of their first child.
In a social media post, Kohli wrote that he and his actress-wife were blessed with a baby girl.
In his post, the 32-year-old Team India skipper thanked all the well-wishers and confirmed that the baby and mother are healthy. “We are feeling blessed to start this new chapter of our lives,” he wrote.
He also urged the fans to respect their privacy.
And soon after, wishes poured in for the high-profile newborn. Sports stars like badminton player Saina Nehwal and English international cricketer Alexandra Hartley, and Bookworm founder Manish Sharma were one of the first few personalities to wish the new parents.
Last year in December, Captain Kohli had chosen to take paternity leave and fly back to India from Australia where Team India were playing. The 32-year-old cricketer had left after the team suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of the hosts in Adelaide. Ajinkya Rahane had been entrusted to fill in Kohli’s shoes, and under his captaincy India won the second Test at Melbourne.
When Kohli had announced on August 27 last year that there was a new member joining the household, Twitterati had gone wild. His tweet, “And then, we were three! Arriving Jan 2021” with a photograph of the power couple, was retweeted close to 70K times, and was liked by over 6.4 L users.
“Anushka and the baby are both healthy and we are feeling beyond blessed to start this new chapter of our lives. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time.”
Kohli and Sharma got married in 2017.
The star batsman has returned from Australia on paternity leave after leading India in the first Test.
Incidentally, the news came on a day when India snatched a remarkable draw in the third Test against Australia in Sydney to keep the series alive at 1-1.
