Kangana Ranaut will soon be seen essaying the role of the first and only female Prime Minister of India, Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi. The political leader helmed the nation with an iron hand. The stateswoman had laid the foundation of a new country – Bangladesh on the world map. She brought landscape changes in the country in the spheres of economy, polity, international and national affairs.
Kangana, in a statement, confirmed the emanating development. She even mentioned that it won’t be a biopic instead it will chronicle the significant events of Indian political history including the controversial ‘Operation Blue Star’ and ‘The Emergency’. The untitled movie will be directed by Sai Kabir.
‘Operation Blue Star’ was a mission undertaken to suppress the Khalistani movement in Punjab. It eventually proved to be the reason of the Indira’s death.
Whereas, ‘the Emergency’ which was imposed by Indira Gandhi in the year of 1975, curtailed the civil rights of citizens, suspended fundamentals rights, threw the prominent opposition leaders behind bars and most importantly curbed press freedom in India,
“Yes, we are working on the project, and the script is in the final stages. It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand (the) socio-political landscape of current India,” the actor said in a statement.
The Thalaivi actress is eager to play Indira Gandhi and said: “The most iconic leader that we have had in the history of Indian politics”. She added: “Many prominent actors will be part of this film who will be seen essaying the role of Sanjay Gandhi, Rajeev Gandhi, Morarji Desai and Lal Bahadur Shashtri amongst many others.” Kangana has a lot of movies such Dhaakad, Tejas and Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda in her bag. The actress was last seen in Thalaivi, a biopic on former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
