Karan Johar has told the Narcotics Control Bureau that no drugs were consumed at a party hosted at his house last year. The filmmaker made the submission in response to a notice issued to him by the agency, PTI reported.
An official said: “Johar was asked to give details of the party. Accordingly, the NCB on Friday received a reply from him to the notice. In the reply, Johar maintained that no drug was consumed at the party.”
Karan’s lawyer, who visited the NCB office in south Mumbai on Friday morning, has handed over the written reply to the agency.
In 2019, Karan had hosted a party, a video of which went viral on social media with people claiming most of those attending it were in an inebriated state. Deepika Padukone, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal were among those present at the party and in the viral video.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Manjinder Sirsa had sent the video to the agency and in his complaint marked its Mumbai zonal unit
Sirsa claimed he had registered a complaint about this video in August last year with Mumbai police but no action was taken.
Karan had issued an apology after the video went viral but added reports of drug consumption at the party were malicious and slanderous.
“These slanderous and malicious statements, news articles and news clippings have unnecessarily subjected me, my family, and my colleagues, and Dharma Productions, to hatred, contempt and ridicule. I would like to unequivocally once again state that I do not consume narcotics and I do not promote or encourage consumption of any such substance,” he had said
The NCB is currently investigating the drugs angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. In connection with the probe, the NCB has questioned several prominent people, including Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Rakulpreet Singh, Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Rampal.
Recently, it had arrested comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa over alleged possession and use of marijuana. However, they were granted bail last week.
