In a shocking relevation, late music composer Wajid Khan’s wife Kamalrukh Khan has alleged that her in-laws tried to force her to convert to Islam post their marriage. Sharing a post on her Instagram handle, the clinical hypnotherapist also accused the family of harassing her when she refused to convert.
Talking about her experience in the inter-faith marriage Kamalrukh says, “couldn’t be a family due to his and his family’s religious fanaticism”. She further added that her children- 16-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son- are denied family inheritance as she resisted from converting her religion.
Marking the “untimely death” of Wajid Khan, Kamalrukh posted “but my resisitance to convert to Islam drastically widened the divide between me and my husband, making it toxic enough to destroy our relationship”.
Kamalrukh recalls that they were ‘college sweethearts’ who got married under the Special Marriage Act. Kamalrukh Khan is a Parsi and Wajid Khan a muslim, the act allowed them to marry while practising their own religion.
Kamalrukh broke her silence at a time when legislation on inter-faith marriage is doing the rounds. Deliberating on the anti-conversion bill, she said the provision should be nationalised.
Taking to Twitter, actor Kangana Ranaut also extended her support to Kamalrukh Khan.
Wajid Khan died in May this year after a cardiac arrest. He had also tested positive for Covid-19.
