A man in Hyderabad allegedly set his 10-year-old son on fire as he was not ‘studying properly.’
According to police, Balu, a resident of Kukatpally Housing Colony, sent his son Charan to get beedis at 9.30 am.
The boy returned after some time and Balu got angry with him for coming late and started beating him saying he was not doing good in studies and not attending tuition regularly.
Balu also pushed away his wife after she tried to intervene and save the boy from thrashing.
The father then picked up a can and poured oil on the boy. He lit his beedi and threw the match stick on the boy, setting him on fire.
In an attempt to save himself, the boy ran out of the house and fell into a ditch.
The local residents immediately swung into action and poured water on him and admitted him to Gandhi Hospital.
The victim, who studies in Class 6, has suffered 60% burn injuries and is said to be in critical condition.
Police have arrested Balu. The cops say the accused was drunk at the time of the incident.
