Over 50 people have been beheaded by militant Islamists in a northern Mozambique village.
Privately-run Pinnacle News reported the atrocity was carried out from Friday night to Sunday.
The militants turned a football pitch in the village into an “execution ground”.
Villagers who tried to flee were caught and taken to the pitch.
There, they were beheaded and chopped to pieces.
The militants are linked to the Islamic State group.
The massacre is the latest in a series of gruesome attacks in the province since 2017.
Nearly 2,000 people have been killed in the conflict in the mainly Muslim province.
Mozambique’s government has appealed for international help to curb the insurgency.
