In a shocking incident, a teenager hacked his alleged girlfriend’s brother and grandmother to death for opposing their relationship.
The 17-year-old Muslim youth slit the throats of 10-year-old Yash and 70-year-old Laxmi Dhruve at their residence in Nagpur’s Hazaripahad on Thursday.
Police said the girl’s family was against the relationship since the boy belonged to another community and also because he was involved in various anti-social activities and committed petty crimes. The youth reportedly also carried a knife with him.
The cops confirmed Dhruve was found dead by her daughter-in-law Sonali with multiple stab wounds when she returned from work. Shocked at the seeing her mother-in-law’s body, she started searching for her son, who couldn’t be found anywhere in the room or in the neighbourhood.
Sonali was quoted by OpIndia as saying: “I thought he (daughter’s friend) must have kidnapped my son whose body was later found inside the bathroom with blood all over.” She then alerted her husband Mohan and raised an alarm in the neighbourhood.
The accused had befriended the 20-year-old girl a year back on social media. She had reportedly maintained an on-off relation with him since her family objected to their friendship.
Reports said the girl’s family had shifted to her maternal uncle’s place sometime back after learning about the relation. However, for the past few months the youth frequently engaged in verbal altercations with her family and even threatened them of dire consequences for opposing the affair.
Times of India quoted a family member as saying: “The boy used to call up her family members and threaten them if she refused to meet him. He often thrashed her but she was unable to break off with him for an unspecified reason.”
Enraged with her family’s disapproval over the relationship, he allegedly attacked the elderly woman and the child when no one was at home.
Following a complained lodged by the victim’s family, a case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the accused.
