A loud sound was heard in South Bengaluru on July 2 afternoon, similar to the sonic boom of last year. The loud noise was heard in ISRO Layout, HSR Layout, Benson Town, Sarjapur, Ulsoor, south Bengaluru, east Bengaluru and JP Nagar areas of the city.
According to reports, the locals were scared and rushed out of their houses. Several residents took to social media reporting the loud sound and also how window panes and doors rattled due to the sound.
In May of last year, similar “sonic boom” was heard in many areas of Bengaluru. The locals had described it as a ‘thunderous noise’.
The Indian Air Force later revealed that it was an IAF Test Flight involving a supersonic profile that took off from the Bengaluru airport, resulting in the sonic boom.
However, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) this time said that there was no unusual activity on its part that may have caused the bang.
“Regular sorties of fighters and trainee aircraft take place from HAL airport. Today was no different. HAL can’t comment on the loud sound reportedly heard today in Bengaluru,” HAL’s spokesperson told the media.
