A 21-year-old college student has been shot dead in broad daylight by her jilted lover outside Faridabad’s Aggarwal College. Only last month, victim Nikita Tomar had filed a complaint of molestation and harassment against Taufeeq.
In a CCTV footage of the incident, the assailant can be seen stepping out of his car and pulling out a revolver. Nikita can be seen struggling to get free before she was shot in the head.
Reportedly, the accused wanted to abduct her as she exited her college premises after appearing in an exam. However, when she resisted his attempt, she was shot at point-blank range.
Nikita’s family alleged the incident was a case of “love jihad” and that she was being forced to convert and marry the accused for the last three years. However, when she refused to convert, the accused tried to abduct her.
Her father had filed a molestation complaint against Taufeeq in 2018. According to police, Taufeeq was angry at Nikita after she stopped taking his calls and even blocked his number.
BJP spokesperson Raman Malik condemned the incident and said this was a “jihadi” kind of activity.
Protests erupted across the town after Nikita’s friends staged a demonstration outside the college seeking stringent punishment for those accused.
Police have handed over the probe to the Crime Branch and are awaiting the final post-mortem report.
