The Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase II that is 28.25 km long and the Surat Metro Rail Project that is 40.35-km-long were inaugurated by the Prime Minster Narendra Modi via video conferencing on Monday.
The total cost for Ahmedabad and Surat Metro projects is estimated to be Rs 5,384 crore and Rs 12,020.32 crore, respectively. PM Modi performed the bhoomi poojan for both the Ahmedabad and Surat metro projects.
“Today is a landmark day for two of Gujarat’s leading urban centres. The Bhoomi Poojan of Surat Metro and Phase-2 of the Ahmedabad Metro would take place at 10:30 AM,” PM Modi tweeted. The Ahmedabad metro project’s phase II is with two corridors – Corridor-1 is 22.8 Kms long from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir; Corridor-2 is 5.4 Kms long.
Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project (AMRP)
Rs 10,773crore was invested in the Phase I of AMRP. Japan lent a loan of Rs 6,066crore to the Indian government via its agency Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Gujarat and the Central governments contributed with Rs 1990crore, for the phase I. PM Modi inaugurated the 6.5km stretch of phase-I last year.
Surat Metro Rail Project (SMRP)
The 40.35km long SMRP is with two corridors. The first phase of the project will be started in June 2022 and is likely to be completed in four years. The two routes in the first phase are – one between Sarthana and Dream City, a distance of 21.61 kms, with 14 elevated stations, and the other route will be from Bhesan to Saroli, a distance of 18.74 kms, with 18 elevated stations.
