On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi used video conferencing to release the eighth instalment of the financial gain under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Over 19,000 crore was transferred into the bank accounts of over 9.5 crore beneficiary farmer families as part of this instalment.
After releasing the funds, the PM communicated with the scheme’s beneficiaries. The Prime Minister said to a farmer from Andhra Pradesh who transformed a piece of barren land into suitable land for organic farming, You have set a good example for others to follow. Your self-assurance is a reflection of your skill and experience”, PM Modi was told by a farmer from the southern state that she grows three crops on her land in a year.
PM Modi said 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) are being set up in the country, and small farmers are becoming affiliated with them, while speaking to a farmer from Meghalaya who has developed a business model for organic farming. Your self-assurance about what you do makes your model desirable, the Prime Minister told the farmer.
The event was also attended by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. The programme, which was launched in 2019, was a flagship project of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that aimed to provide financial assistance to the country’s farmers. Every year, a total of 6000 euros is allocated to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts under the scheme.
