Amazon Prime’s web series ‘Tandav’ is Ali Abbas Zafar’s debut on OTT. The trailer of the series was released some time back. Audience had great expectations from this high political drama that questions the value of freedom of speech and expression in the world’s largest democracy. Following the release of the series on January 15, controversies kept seeping in.
The series seems to have garnered bad blood among certain groups who have accused the series of slandering Hinduism by defaming Hindu gods and glorifying the infamous JNU incident. It appears that the content did not go well with most of the Indian audience who say that the series is nothing but a mere political propaganda, as per Platocast.
As soon as the series was released, a hashtag #BoycottTandav on Twitter started trending where people called out the makers and Prime to immediately stop airing the show. They have accused the series of questioning feudalism, casteism and other atrocities that exist in our country which may result in communal tension and hurt religious sentiments.
Though a section of people have praised Tandav for the powerful acting of the star cast, the larger mass feel it promotes left-wing ideology. The show stars Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kritika Kamra, Gauahar Khan, Sarah-Jane Dias, Kritika Avasthi, Dino Morea, Anup Soni, Kumud Mishra, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Paresh Pahuja, Amyra Dastur in key roles.
