A cover of central security forces has been thrown around all the newly elected 77 BJP MLAs in West Bengal considering the potential threat to them, official sources said on Monday.
They said armed commandos of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) would secure the Members of the Legislative Assembly.
The Union Home ministry took the decision after taking into cognisance a report prepared by central security agencies and the inputs of a high-level team of officers sent to West Bengal by the ministry in the wake of post-poll violence against BJP workers.
According to MHA’s orders, 61 MLAs will be covered under the lowest ‘X’ category with CISF commandos, they said. The rest already have central security cover or will be covered under next higher ‘Y’ category ‘. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari is already a ‘Z’ category protectee of the CRPF, they said.
