Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh will meet Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on June 6 amid efforts by the party to resolve the ongoing crisis in the state unit.
This is the Congress President’s first meeting with the Punjab CM since she set up a committee to resolve the party crisis in Congress-ruled Punjab.
Tuesday’s meeting comes days after ex-minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is at loggerheads with the chief minister, met Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Delhi.
Sonia Gandhi is expected to discuss the role that the party has thought of for Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Both Navjot Singh Sidhu and Amarinder Singh had joined hands ahead of the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections.
However, the differences between the two leaders became public in 2019 when Sidhu tweeted a copy of his resignation from the Punjab Cabinet. The two prominent leaders of Punjab Congress have since been exchanging accusations with a resolution to this tussle nowhere in sight.
