Sukhbir Singh Badal, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), was arrested by Punjab Police on Tuesday during a demonstration alleging fraud in different initiatives launched by Captain Amarinder Singh’s government. Badal was detained after staging a protest against the state government outside the Chief Minister’s bungalow in Siswan with scores of SAD and BSP leaders.
“Courted arrest with hundreds of SAD & BSP workers while marching to CM @capt amarinder’s farmhouse near Chd to demand arrest of health min @BalbirSinghMLA for vaccine & fateh kit scams besides need to give market rate to farmers whose lands are acquired for highway projects (sic),” Badal tweeted after his detention.
Thousands of SAD-BSP workers gathered near Capt Amarinder Singh’s farmhouse “to wake the arrogant ‘raja’ from his slumber and demand justice for the people of Punjab,” he added in another tweet. He went on to say that after his party becomes the government in 2022, the SAD-BSP coalition has decided to hold all Congress officials accountable for the corruption they have perpetrated.
Before being detained, Badal told reporters that “if a storm rises, Captain will not be able to stop it.” “Even if Captain utilises all of his force, he won’t be able to stop a storm from forming. ANI cited the SAD president as stating, “There is a scam in the vaccine, there is a scam in Fateh Kit, there is a scam in SC scholarship, and farmers’ land is being acquired.” To disperse the throng as the protest grew larger, security officers fired water cannons on protesting Akali Dal officials and workers. The protestors were seen pushing their way over police barricades, with many climbing on top of them and waving party flags.
