Trinamool Congress MP and Tollywood actor Nusrat Jahan garnered criticism from across the country for her remark on the saffron party. While addressing people at a blood donation camp at the Muslim-dominated Deganga in North 24 Parganas district, in West Bengal, she referred to the BJP as ‘more dangerous than Coronavirus’.
The MP said BJP is known for creating religious divide and propagating hatred and enmity among the Hindus and Muslims thus disturbing the peace and harmony in society. She also added that the party plays this divide and rule policy for vote banking.
“Keep your ears and eyes open because there are some people around you who are more dangerous than corona. Do you know what is more dangerous than corona? It is the BJP. Because they don’t understand our culture. Because they don’t understand humanity. They don’t understand the value of our hard work. They only know business. They have a lot of money. They are spreading it everywhere. And then they turn people against each other on the basis of religion and trigger riots,” the actor-turned-Trinamool leader said at a meeting in her constituency Bashirhat, reported Times Now.
However, this statement made by Nusrat did not go well with the BJP’s social media head Amit Malviya, who is co-convenor for the Bengal elections due in four months. He came down heavily on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the MP’s statement. He accused her for appeasing the minorities to draw favour during elections.
“In WB, the worst kind of vaccine politics is unfolding. First, Siddiqulla Chowdhury, a sitting minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet, holds up trucks carrying vaccines. Now a TMC MP, campaigning in Muslim majority Deganga, likens BJP to Corona. But Pishi (aunt) is silent. Why? Appeasement?,” Amit tweeted.
Malviya, in his tweet, was referring to an occurrence in Burdwan when a health department van carrying vaccines from Kolkata to Bankura was wedged in a major traffic chaos because of a blockade that was reportedly led by TMC minister Siddiqulla Chowdhury. Post this, the police had to intervene and reroute the van through a different road. Siddiqulla, however contradicted the statement made by the BJP leader and said the police was pre-informed about the protest.
