Microblogging site Twitter on May 21 flagged BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra’s tweet on a “Congress Toolkit” soon after Congress lodged a complaint.
On May 18, a tweet containing screenshots of an alleged document circulated by Congress was posted by Sambit Patra, who claimed it was a ‘Toolkit’ to defame the PM and the current government efforts to deal Covid-19.
In a tweet posted on May 18, Patra said “Friends look at the #CongressToolKit in extending help to the needy during the Pandemic! More of a PR exercise with the help of “Friendly Journalists” & “Influencers” than a soulful endeavor. Read for yourselves the agenda of the Congress: #CongressToolKitExposed,” attaching screenshots of the alleged toolkit. The document has been shared in two parts – four pages of a COVID-19 ‘toolkit’ and four pages of research on the issues with the Central Vista project.
Many top BJP leaders, including party president JP Nadda and Union ministers Smriti Irani, Hardeep Puri, Anurag Thakur, Piyush Goyal, shared Patra’s tweet.
Congress had filed a complaint with the Twitter headquarters levelling charges of fabrication against the BJP spokesperson and demanded that Twitter accounts of the BJP leaders should also be suspended.
After Twitter’s action, social media cell head of the Congress, Rohan Dua tagged Sambit Patra’s post and wrote, “We had promised to expose the lie before the country and we stand vindicated.”
