Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, who was born in Israel and served a mandatory two years as a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces took to Twitter to break her silence on the ongoing Israel-Palestine violence. She wrote, “My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people. This is a vicious cycle that has been going on for far too long. Israel deserves to live as a free and safe nation. Our neighbours deserve the same.”
“I pray for the victims and their families. I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we can live side by side in peace. I pray for better days.” she added.
Although the actor posted the message to encourage unity and peace between the two nations amid the violence. Yet, the tweet received so much backlash and hate that made the actress turned off the comment section on her post. Critics and Palestinian supporters accused the actress of using her position as a ‘propaganda’ for Israel and their attempts at ‘ethnic cleansing.
Her tweet became a hot topic of debate as netizens accused her of being tone deaf and not seeing the real picture behind the clashes.
One of the users reposted her story with the caption as “Why r these types of tweet came across my timeline?? Hey ma’am you are wrong. Israel isn’t at ‘war’ with Palestine but “your country” started it first. You can’t even say the word “Palestinians” on your tweet. Lol. She always makes self-contradictory statements.”
Violence between Israel and Palestine escalated this week after Israel launched several airstrikes on Palestine’s Gaza Strip, and waves of rockets were fired from Gaza at Tel Aviv, the city of Ashkelon and the country’s main airport. Tensions between Israel and Palestine have escalated recently over the eviction of Palestinians from East Jerusalem.
