New Zealand named their 15-man squad for the World Test Championship final (WTC) against India, which begins on June 18 at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl. Kane Williamson, the captain, and BJ Watling, the wicketkeeper-batsman, have both been cleared for the WTC final.
Due to injuries, both Williamson and Watling were unable to play in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Williamson was forced to withdraw owing to an elbow ailment, while Watling, who is slated to retire after the World Cup final against India, was forced to withdraw owing to a back ailment.
“Kane and BJ have certainly benefitted from their week of rest and rehabilitation and we expect them to be fit and available for the final,” Stead said.
Tom Blundell, who played in the New Zealand-won Edgbaston Test, has been retained in the WTC squad as a back-up for Watling.
