Two Coimbatore engineers have built a low-cost electric bike.
It can travel 27km when fully charged, costing Rs 5 in electricity.
The electric vehicle costs just Rs 16,000.
S Kiranlal and V Brathikan of Kumaraguru College of Technology spent the Covid-19 lockdown to build the bike.
They built its prototype Duo V1.1 in just a few months.
The creators said the bike consumes 0.6 units of electricity in its 2.5-hour charge cycle.
The bike is cheaper and easier to maintain as it has fewer parts.
Since some of the parts are 3D printed, it makes the bike lighter.
Electric vehicles are the future of automotive industry with many manufacturers exploring the possibilities in this segment.
