The Indian cricket team wore black armbands during the national song before the commencement of the World Test Championship final at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday as a homage to the renowned Indian athlete Milkha Singh, who died on Friday night due to Covid-19-related problems.
On Twitter, current Indian Test players such as Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and head coach Ravi Shastri paid respect to the Olympian. “#TeamIndia is wearing black armbands in honour of Milkha Singhji, who passed away due to COVID-19,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote on Twitter.

On May 20, the 91-year-old was diagnosed with the virus and was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali on May 24. Singh had been discharged on May 30 before being admitted on June 3 to the Covid ward at PGIMER’s Nehru Hospital Extension due to low oxygen levels. He had tested negative on Thursday and was transferred to the medical ICU.
