The Serum Institute of India’s CEO Adar Poonawalla announced that he will return to India from London in a few days after attending a meeting with all the partners and stakeholders in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, he assured that Covishield’s production is afoot in Pune and he will review the operations upon his arrival.
Moreover, he has been under tremendous pressure to meet the increasing demand for vaccines in India as he also receives calls from the powerful and dominating people in India, prompting him to supply Covishield to them. Following this reason, he extended his stay in London with his wife and children as everything fell back on his shoulders.
Given these threats, Adar Poonawalla will be accorded with ‘Y’ category security, which involves the presence of 11 security personnel, including armed commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with him every time he travels.
The 40-year-old businessman had also symbolized that he went to London to expand the manufacturing process of vaccines to countries outside India. The company already began exporting to 68 countries until the situation deteriorated in the country. Furthermore, SII has reduced the price of the Covishield vaccine from Rs. 400 to Rs. 300 per dose.
