A seven-member central team will arrive in West Bengal on Saturday for a three-day tour to survey the damage caused by cyclone Yaas, according to a senior official.
When an inter-ministerial team led by SK Shahi, joint secretary in the ministry of home affairs, arrives on Sunday, it would assess the situation in South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur the next day, he added. It would complete its review in three days and depart for Delhi on June 9, according to the official.
“On Monday, the central team will be visiting Digha and Mandarmani in Purba Medinipur, where officials will give a presentation on the damage caused by Yaas,” an official said. Before that, the team will head to the affected areas of South 24 Parganas district to hold a meeting with officials, he added.
During its three-day tour, the inter-ministerial team is expected to meet with officials from the finance department, according to sources. On May 26, Cyclone Yaas hit the coastal areas of Odisha and Bengal, dumping rain, flooding homes, and leaving a trail of damage in its wake.
