Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha and West Bengal on May 28 to review the impact of Cyclone Yaas. Yaas is the second cyclonic storm to hit India within a week after Tauktae tore into its western coast, causing death and destruction.
PM Modi will first land in Bhubaneswar where he will hold a review meeting. Then he will proceed for an aerial survey in affected areas of Balasore, Bhadrak and Purba Medinipur.
According to a statement realised by PMO, the Prime minister chaired a meeting on May 27 during which officials made a detailed presentation on various aspects of preparedness, assessment of damage and related matters.
The statement added that around 106 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed with 46 teams each in West Bengal and Odisha that rescued more than 1000 persons and removed more than 2500 trees/poles that had fallen and obstructed the roads.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will also undertake surveys on May 28. Then will then meet PM Narendra Modi at Kalaikunda over Cyclone Yaas damage.
“Tomorrow I am having a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kalaikunda in West Midnapore to share the extent of damage due to Cyclone Yaas”, CM Mamata said.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee launched ‘Duare Tran’ (relief at doorstep) for Cyclone ‘Yaas’ affected people from June 3 to June 18. From July 1 to July 8, DBT to the affected people. She announced a Rs 1000 crore relief package.
